The Lucifer Gambit

by The Facades

/

about

I wrote this song two years ago to try and explain the Thin Man's wrath to the world. There have been many versions of this song since, from a full vocal arrangement to the live version from Rise And Shine to this version on my latest album. I am proud of them all, and proud to share them all.

If you're interested in receiving regular updates about The Facades, send me an email! I send out newsletters with teasers, short stories, and behind-the-scenes stuff on the last Sunday of every month!

lyrics

I am a fallen star from high above.
Glowing brighter than the sun.
You always preached to me of endless love.
Through knowing he’s the only one.
I’ll never pray again to be saved instead of damned.
I’d rather rule over hell than suffer heaven for a slice of land.

Got five aces up my sleeve, trying so hard to
Alleviate the pain of getting your wings ripped off again.
Never more than what thou art, I've got the cure for a broken
Heart, you rage until you fall into the dark.
For that little taste of heaven.

I am made of hell in a human shape, to wallow in all that human hate.
Preachers up above cannot let me be, but they play the fool down at heaven's gate.
I'll never cease to be amazed by what fools these mortals be.
Don't dare look behind the smile, cause you see.

Got five aces up my sleeve, trying so hard to
Alleviate the pain of getting your wings ripped off again.
Never more than what thou art, I've got the cure for a broken
Heart, you rage until you fall into the dark.
For that little taste of heaven.

We stand before you
Today to celebrate the lives of the man we thought we knew.
Preachers of war, come to my arms, don't rain on my parade,
And all the filthy ones with hearts as dark as coal.
Ghosts and liars circle round, for I'm the one who has your soul.

Got five aces up my sleeve, trying so hard to
Alleviate the pain of getting your wings ripped off again.
Never more than what thou art, I've got the cure for a broken
Heart, you rage until you fall into the dark.
For that little taste of heaven.

about

The Facades Amherst, Massachusetts

The Facades is the solo project of a queer electronic music composer (she/they) who thinks consistent gender and consistent genre are for scrubs. The characters they portray take a front seat, with a witty lyrical edge to speak truth to power.
